James "Sarge" Goodall
My name is James Goodall, fellow LST ship mates call me SARGE. I’m seeking your vote to stay on the LST Board of Directors.
I have been a tour guide and crew member of the LST-325 since 2007.
I served 4 years in the Air Force, 1960-1964. Then Army active duty and reserve service with a total of 27 years. I was an M-1A2 tank commander for 15 years and pulled active duty in the 1991 Desert Storm War. I retired in 1999 at Fort Knox as a S-3 Ops Sgt 7th Bde HQ 100th Division as Master Sergent.
In my civilian job, I was a commercial artist with Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. I have a college degree in art with a minor in history. I have a great respect and admiration for veterans who served this country. A special respect for the WWII greatest generation and WWII soldiers.
During my service on the LST-325, I have designed and constructed a good many of the displays on Tank Deck. I set up the 40mm AA deck guns simulated fire system on the stern and bow gun position. Also design and constructed the dummy 20mm MG’s on the bow gun tubs. Working with the LST office staff to design displays for the LST Office Museum. Also working with the LST Office staff to set up special events on the LST-325 main deck. Special events like Pearl Harbor, D-day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day to remind the public of these historical events. I enjoy pulling tour guide duty to help tell the story of the LST-325 and what the WWII greatest generation did to keep our freedoms. When on LST tour mission cruise I do an impression of WWII General George S. Patton doing photo ops with the waiting line to tour the LST.
The main mission of the LST-325 is to bring history alive to the touring public. When they walk the decks of the LST-325 they get a feel for what the WWII greatest generation did to keep us free. Its up to us to keep the LST-325 operational, sailing from city to city to bring that history to the public. I have very deep passion for American history, our veterans and the mission of the LST-325, we should do everything we can to promote and market the LST-325. We should be able to think outside the box with innovative ideas and methods to promote the LST-325.
The one thing I say at the end of my tours to the tour group. Those who build this LST, served on her and keep her operational and many have passed on. They are not gone, when we sail they all sail with us. I’m a hard charger and a team player when it comes to getting the LST-325 mission done. I’m seeking your vote and support to stay on the Board of Directors.
Many Thanks from
SARGE
